The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that the shooting incident at the Rancho 3 RRR horse ranch on Saturday is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim was identified by the Dallas Medical Examiner’s Office as 36-year-old Miguel Angel Guerrero, a Fort Worth man.

Monday, the Sheriff’s Office had not yet confirmed the cause of death but suggested it was indeed a gunshot.

The ranch’s caretaker, Ricardo Hernandez, told The Ennis Daily News this week that he believes the suspects were three black males and a black female, although the Sheriff’s Office has not yet described any suspects in the case.

According to Hernandez, Guerrero was wounded near the ranch home while Hernandez was asleep. The Sheriff’s Office said Guerrero was taken from the property about a mile to meet an ambulance.

He was pronounced dead at Ennis Regional Medical Center shortly after arrival.

The Sheriff’s Office has not said what caused the shooting on Saturday, but Hernandez told the EDN that the shooting likely started after the suspects were caught stealing while attending a horse racing event on the property.

According to an obituary published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Guerrero leaves behind a wife and three children.
