Sheriff’s deputies recovered a submerged vehicle that went missing in 1977.

Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies located a car that was reported stolen 37 years ago during a dive team training exercise early last week.
“In a dive team training exercise on July 22, a vehicle was recovered that was reported stolen in 1977,” Sheriff Johnny Brown said in a press release. “On July 22, members of the Sheriff’s Office dive team (were) offered a training opportunity to help recover a submerged vehicle from a strip pit in the Rockett area. According to some long time residents of the area, the vehicle had been in the water for many years and could be seen when the water was low.”
